Greg started his career in his hometown, Detroit, in 1982 - playing, writing and recording in the vibrant punk rock scene. He moved to New York in 1987 in the thick of the Hip Hop movement, and then to the recording mecca of Los Angeles in 2004. In 2015 he relocated to Pittsburgh, to focus on producing and mixing in his Wood Hollow studio. He has produced, engineered and mixed a wide spectrum of classic ‘big beat’ groups and artists of every genre.
Mentored in the Motown and Funkadelic tradition of heavy groove and direct melody, Greg was fortunate to work with and learn from Motown veterans and legends including Bob Dennis, Sylvia Moy, Earl Van Dyke, Uriel Jones, and Beans Bowles.
He also produced and Recorded Punk, Funk, And R&B records for Detroit based artists including ANGRY RED PLANET, SLEEP (detroit), THE LAYABOUTS, ORTHEIA BARNES, and his own band PRIVATE ANGST.
He reinforced his Insights by teaching at the RECORDING INSTITUTE OF DETROIT.
In 1987 Greg moved to NYC and tied in with CHUNG KING studios were he had the chance to work with many founding creators of Hip Hop, including PUBLIC ENEMY, LL COOL J, and RUN DMC and the SUGAR HILL GANG.
In the early 90’s Greg took the opportunity to reconnect with the live rock world, joining BARKMARKET to tour the US and Europe for several years as a front of house mix musician, and dove into engineering records in the NY alternative rock scene, including HELMET, COP SHOOT COP, and SKELETON KEY and ENON.
The Later 90’s found Greg spending more and more time in Los Angeles, exploring the ropes of metal with bands like SLAYER and SYSTEM OF A DOWN.
By the early 2000’s the focus had shifted west, and Greg made the move in 2004, Working on diverse projects ranging from OASIS to THE OAK RIDGE BOYS to the DANDY WARHOLS to a NICK CAVE / WARREN ELLIS Score for the film LAWLESS.
2015, Saw the call of family bringing the Gordon clan back east, where Greg established his Wood Hollow Studio, a focused mix environment catered to his tastes and needs.
In the late 90’s Greg began a special relationship with the Belgian rock scene, engineering the EVIL SUPERSTARS , SOULWAX, MAURO PAWLOWSKI and DILDO WARHEADS. Greg has a natural affinity with the Belgian sensibility, and has had an ongoing string of successful projects including TRIGGERFINGER, BLACK BOX REVELATION and CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN, VAN JETS, ROZA PARKS, JACLE BOW, and MILLIONAIRE.
Recently Greg has continued to help new artists develop and developed artists create new classics, including THE DRAIN, BEWARE OF DARKNESS, SLIPKNOT and GHOST B.C.
